#Intel 82577lm gigabit network connection alienware driver update

Some laptops do not have the capability to change these settings, part of the reason why is the bios isnt setup for user intervention because of intel speedstep technology, which controls the cpu state, see if Speedstep is in the bios and if you can disable it, that might make it appear, probably not but worth a shot.Īs a side note as an update, the 2 machines with the changed C-State still have not crashed and should have by this time, I just updated the other two machines with a forced update to the creators build last night, will keep you posted as to the progress on those. The 2 ancient laptops don't even have functioning batteries, and are running on AC-main power only. Power Options are set to the High Performance plan. Note: My PCs do distributed computing, and never go to sleep or hibernate

So, perhaps C-state settings aren't always available, and aren't available for me to test with. But a look through both laptop BIOSs, didn't reveal any settings that seemed relevant (except hyperthreading which I want to leave enabled, and multi-core which I want to leave set to 'all'). I hope you're all still willing to help me track this one down, please! Thanks! I'm currently testing to see if the issue happens when Device Manager > Network adapter > Power Management. I didn't learn the difference between a switch and a hub until 3 weeks ago :/ I sort of feel like the OP was treated unfairly - it's not easy to repro this, and we're not all experts. So, if the issue presents itself again, I'll see if I can get some Wireshark data, either via hub or via home-grown cross-over cable :) I believe I have some ancient hubs in my old cable bags somewhere, and newb experience with WireShark, and even some super-newb experience making LAN cables (I crimped ~20 Cat6 ends last weekend, for the first time in my life, testing each one, only had to redo 4 of them!) I did see that other thread recommending C-States as a solution, but I'm not seeing any C-State options in my BIOS settings for either PC. The problem is not possible to reproduce on-demand, but after spending 2 hours reading this entire thread, I believe I know a bit more. Sometimes pings work for IPv6, sometimes they don't. Network uses IPv4, but I think sometimes might use IPv6, not sure.

When the problem happens, a PC will freeze, and then network becomes totally non-responsive for the other 2 PCs that are on switches. Verify that the remote system powered on correctly.I recently setup a Gigabit Ethernet network (woot!), and have now witnessed this exact problem happen, on 2 of my 3 PCs that are on switches (darn!). On the status bar at the bottom, it reads Magic Packet Sent To 255.255.255.255.

Input the MAC Address, Internet Address (local address in this case), Subnet Mask, Send Options: Local Subnet, Port Number 7 (default port), and then click the Wake Me Up button. The screenshot below shows the use of the Depicus* Wake On LAN GUI.

On a remote Windows Server 2008* system that is on the same subnet of the system to Wake Up, run a WOL utility. Make a note of the MAC address, IP address, and Subnet Mask of the Network Adapter for which WOL was enabled. Note that other WOL options are available in this section. Open the Device Manager, click Network adapters, right-click the Network Adapter to be WOL enabled, and click Properties.Ĭlick the Link Speed tab then verify installation of Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and verify it is the latest version.Ĭlick the Power Management tab and mark the Wake on Magic Packet from power off state check box.
